BARÇA LOOKING FOR DANI ALVES COVER

Barca is searching the football market for a right back defender that can cover when Dani Alves is unavailable to make the team. Guardiola is considering Azpilicueta (Osasuna), Ansaldi (Rubin), Rafinha (Schalke) and Eboue (Arsenal)

The right-back position is the only one in FC Barcelona’s team that where the starting player – Dani Alves – has little or no competition. So far, only Carles Puyol, in emergencies, has played at right back, which is why the club will try that next season Alves has a natural replacement. Guardiola wants to insure that there is another player who can replace Alves if he suffers an injury or gets booked.

The Blaugrana technical secretary has reportedly drafted a list of four names to reinforce that position: Rafinha (Schalke 04), Ansaldi (Rubin Kazan), Azpilicueta (Osasuna) and Eboue (Arsenal).

Barca are debating on whether to choose a young player with great potential who can grow next to Dani Alves or a player with proven experience. In the first group, FCB will consider Azpilicueta (20 years old), Ansaldi (23) and Rafinha (24), while the oldest option in the agenda would be Eboue, who will be 27 soon.

As it happened to Chygrynskiy last season, Guardiola was impressed by Ansaldi, an Argentine footballer who played against Barca for Rubin Kazan in the Champions League. Rafinha has been monitored for a couple of seasons now, while Azpilicueta has progressed enormously in a very short time. Although an unofficial Pamplona website announced yesterday that Real Madrid could have reached an agreement Osasuna’s Azpilicueta, worth 10 million euros, the club wait for a better offer. As for Eboue, his signing not only depends on Arsenal’s demands but also on the fact that the player may not accept his role as a replacement for Dani Alves.
