Maxwell arrived at FC Barcelona in the summer of 2009 from Inter Milan to play left back. The Brazilian has won a total of 10 titles as a FC Barcelona player in his two and a half years with the Club – three Spanish Super Cups, two European Super Cups, two League titles, two Club World Cups and one Champions League.
– While it is always a shame to see our players leave, I am pleased that Barça have managed to cash 4MILLeu for the Brazilian left-back: The truth is Maxwell has never really managed to secure a place in FCB’s first eleven and has fallen behind Alves, Adriano, Abidal or Puyol in Guardiola’s pecking order.
I am also pleased we have managed to free space in our squad for youngsters such as Montoya, Fontas or Bartra to get a biggest share of playing time when possible. The future of our squad depends on new, fresh La Masia blood coming through the ranks.
The media is suggesting that Barça is planning to invest heavily on improving our defensive line in the Summer, with names such as Jordi Alba or Thiago Silva being the favourites at this stage. Personally, I would much rather bring Gareth Bale from Tottenham though.
