Messi, Barça’s gift to football, must win the Ballon d’Or >> Read My Mind

Guardiola: ‘Every year, Leo Messi is getting better. You always think he has reached the top, but then gets better again, because he plays more and gains experience’

Guardiola: ‘Every year, Leo Messi is getting better. You always think he has reached the top, but then gets better again, because he plays more and gains experience’

Guardiola: ‘Messi now understands the collective game better. Just this fact makes him perform even better for Barcelona’

Xavi: ‘Leo Messi is currently playing at a much higher level, he is far above every other player on this planet. If Messi maintains his performance level, and if he manages to win a title with Argentina, he will probably be the best in the history of this sport. Leo is simply unique’

Thiago: ‘Leo Messi deserves the Ballon d’Or ahead of Xavi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s a pleasure playing alongside him’

– For the fifth year running, at least one Barça player has made it the Top 3 for the FIFA Ballon d’Or: Messi, Xavi, Cristiano (2010), Messi, Iniesta, Xavi (2010), Messi, Cristiano, Xavi (2009), Cristiano, Messi, Torres (2008) and Kaká, Cristiano, Messi (2007).

Not only that, there were originally eight Barça players nominated in the shortlist of 23 for the award: Abidal, Alves, Cesc, Iniesta, Messi, Piqué, Villa and Xavi.

Individual awards don’t mean much on the pitch, but FIFA’s nominations are clear example of sporting excellence, the success of La Masia’s traditional attacking philosophy.

Scared of witnessing yet another FC Barcelona Ballon d’Or, Real Madrid have banned Cristina Ronaldo and the pathetic Jose Mou555inho from attending the award ceremony to be held on January 9th. I don’t blame them: They must be tired of seeing Messi, Xavi, Puyol and friends lifting those trophies the so desperately crave!!!

For me, there is no doubt Messi will scoop the award. He is simply a gift to football, a player from another galaxy who, luckily for us, chose Barça as the team to develop his career on.

I wouldn’t want to forget to mention Commander Xavi Hernandez on this article. The Catalan Master would also be a deserving winner but, as he explained himself, Messi is simply extraordinary.
