Guardiola decided to rest Xavi, Iniesta and Sergio Busquets from the start, which meant less fluidity in midfield despite the over 70% possession in the first half. Valdes saved a crucial penalty when the scoreline was 0-0, but Aranda scored shortly after with a lucky rebound. Puyol and Messi reacted quickly and made it 1-2 before half time.
From then on, and perhaps helped by Abraham’s sending off, Barca managed to score a couple more goals despite the locals pushing hard even with 10 men.
