Should Barcelona sign David Silva or Ander Herrera?

Barcelona are reportedly looking to strengthen their midfield as soon as their current ban to transfer player expires in January 2016. Sure, it is obvious that the Camp Nou giants are going to miss out on the opportunity of signing new players in the upcoming transfer window, but that certainly doesn’t mean they shouldn’t keep their eyes open until then.

Although Paul Pogba continues to be Barca’s first priority, Ander Herrera and David Silva have been identified as plausible possibilities given their proven record and experience at the highest level.

Silva is believed to have met Manchester City officials to discuss the possibility of him leaving the club in the near future given the players’ predisposition to return to La Liga. Considering his status at one of the Citizens’ best players, however, his transfer would be no less than €30 million.

The current situation that Ander Herrera is experiencing in the other side of Manchester is quite similar. Despite having enjoyed regular playing time since his arrival at United, the talented midfielder has been linked to Barcelona for many seasons now, although a deal was never actually closed at any point due to other circumstances always getting in the way.

Personally, and while it is obviously very exciting to have plenty of names linked to Barcelona, I strongly believe that the first priority before signing new players must be looking at those who are already here.

With respect to Silva and Herrera, Cules are actually much more excited to see if Rafinha, Sergi Samper, Denis Suarez or Sergi Roberto can add when they reach their full potential. Barca has been built on talent coming out of La Masia for years, so money should only be spent elsewhere if considerable, long-term talent was to be brought in instead.
