Victor Valdes has reportedly refused an offer to join Besiktas despite the Catalan goalkeeper having already verbally agreed a contract with the Turks earlier this week.
Despite being scheduled to fly to Istanbul to sign a three-year contract on Sunday afternoon, Valdes decided to cancel the deal after Besiktas representatives reduced the yearly wage they had reportedly agreed in the first instance.
This unexpected turn of events may very well result in Valdes staying at Manchester United until the end of the season despite his incredibly poor relationship with former Barcelona manager Louis Van Gaal.
Personally, I truly feel that Victor Valdes has been involved in far too many controversial situations in recent times to be considered a mere spectator in this new unsavoury episode. The way in which he left Barcelona without even holding a press conference to wave Cule fans goodbye, added to his ongoing feud with Van Gaal is further proof of his difficult personality.
Although Victor Valdes is the most condecorated goalkeeper in Blaugrana history, he should be far better at handling off-the-field adversity.
