Luis Suarez is reportedly next in line to renew his Barcelona contract. After attacking partner Neymar extended his current deal until 2021 in exchange for improving his yearly salary to €16 million, it was only a matter of time until the former Liverpool striker demanded to follow suit.
With other major teams always ready to pounce given Suarez’s undeniable quality, it is reassuring to know that the Barcelona directors have already started talks to secure the Uruguay international’s future at the Camp Nou.
Although Messi certainly deserves to top Barcelona’s list of best paid players, nobody can deny that the team’s recent success is also thanks to the effectiveness of the attacking trident of not only the No.10, but also the brilliant Neymar and Luis Suarez.
As a result, it is only natural that both the Brazil and Uruguay stars come knocking on the club’s door asking for a deal which reflects their influence on the pitch.
Luis Suarez has been key to Barcelona’s success during the Luis Enrique era. Despite having to spend his first four months on the sidelines serving his infamous ban, the Uruguay star managed to impact the team significantly from his very first game and, luckily, his performances have only improved with time.
Reports speculate that Suarez is eyeing up a deal that takes his salary to €16 million or, in other words, improving his contract to Neymar’s level. Judging by his charisma, endless mobility, unlimited hunger for victory and the 92 goals he has scored in just 104 appearances, it would be hard to justify not granting the striker’s wishes.
The Barcelona board have no option but to give Luis Suarez a fairer contract to acknowledge his increased value since joining the Camp Nou giants in the summer of 2014.
