Why Barcelona should give up on Philippe Coutinho transfer

Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a move to Barcelona for what seems like a lifetime. While Catalan and English media keep reporting contradicting stories, one thing is clear: The current Liverpool star will know his fate in the next couple of days. Once the transfer window closes, he will have to prove his worth from scratch once again — whether that is at the Camp Nou or under the eyes of a very awkward Anfield crowd remains to be seen.

The Brazilian international, who is currently training with his national team despite refusing to do so for Liverpool for several days, continues to push for an exit. However, given the huge €160 million price tag currently on his shoulders, he is feeling far less hopeful about a potential move to Barca as time goes by.

In yet another bizarre twist of events in what is turning out to be the worst transfer window in Barcelona’s recent history, the Catalan media are now talking about the board chasing Paulo Dybala, Antoine Griezmann and even Thomas Lemar. This can only be understood as a last-minute attempt which, unless a surprising miracle happens in the next couple of days, is doomed to bring more embarrassment for the Catalans.

As we spoke in Episode 28 of The Barcelona Podcast, time is running out for Barcelona to add proven reinforcements to the squad — and, to be honest, should not waste another second to look for other options. Listen in full here:
