Why Busquets, Messi and Ter Stegen are Trading Up for Barcelona

In ‘The Barcelona Podcast‘, we have a regular feature called ‘La Bolsa’ (The Stock Market) in which we regularly highlight the performances of Barca’s best players of the week. We are sure you will enjoy the podcast (our listeners certainly do!) – Listen here:

If you decided not to listen to our latest episode (we won’t hold it against you, not too much anyway!), here is ‘La Bolsa’ for this week:

Sergio Busquets – Trading Up

The La Masia graduate continues to carry the Barca essence forward in the absence of the departed Xavi and the non-always-available Andres Iniesta. The Catalan holding midfielder has multiplied himself in both attacking and defensive transitions this week, often compensating for the weaknesses of other teammates.

Given his crucial impact in the team, here is hoping that the most indispensable Blaugrana (after Messi!) continues to avoid injury and bless Culés with his controlled football for years to come!

Marc Andre Ter Stegen – Trading Up

The German international was essential once again, contributing with countless saves and clearances to be proud of. His spectacular performances have secured plenty of points this season and, if Barcelona are sitting at the top of the La Liga and Champions League group tables at this point, it is definitely thanks to his contribution between the posts. The No.1’s composure when playing the ball forward must also be highlighted as, without it, the manager’s complex formation puzzle would not be complete.

One of the more underrated players in Ernesto Valverde’s squad, Ter Stegen is slowly but surely becoming a fan favourite at the Camp Nou – one spectacular save at a time.

Lionel Messi – Trading Up

Barcelona’s main protagonist was the Blaugranas’ main attacking reference once again. It really is remarkable how the Argentina international has reached new heights despite having far less support from his attacking teammates this season — The departure of Neymar, early injury suffered by Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez’s terrible form being the key obstacles the No.10 has been faced with.

We could list endless Messi stats and records but, honestly, anyone who has been privileged enough to watch the Argentina star running the show this season knows of his jaw-dropping contribution.

At this point, it really shouldn’t be hard to guess who the player Trading Down this week is, right? Check it out:
