Would Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann fit at Barcelona (according to Luis Suarez)?

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez recently sang the praises of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann. Coutinho scored a goal to open the scoring in Liverpool’s 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth in the Premier League and Griezmann put in a 90 minute shift in a 1-0 victory over Alaves over the weekend, and Suarez was complimentary of both.

The Uruguayan striker praised the duo as “elite players” in an interview with RAC105, and he admitted that he would like to see them in the Blaugrana, saying that “Barca always want the best players”.

He went on to explain that he wasn’t worried about Griezmann’s potential role with Barcelona. “If you look at [Griezmann], at Atletico he needs to play with a number nine. He’s not a fixed number nine,” Suarez said, “Obviously, Griezmann would come here to add to the team and to help the side in the position that the coach wants him to play in.”

The contract situation of the French forward, with a release reportedly set to be cut in half come the summer, it doesn’t make much sense for him to switch the capital for Catalonia in January. That said, Atletico manager Diego Simeone has been ominous about Griezmann’s future at the club, and while Barcelona are not the only suitor, they seem to be in a good position to capture the player’s signature.

While Griezmann would likely be a summer signing, Philippe Coutinho, Mesut Ozil and Arthur have all been heavily linked with the club for the winter transfer window. Francesc and Dan broke down these options and likelihood of each transfer in the latest episode of ‘The Barcelona Podcast’:
